Being the best comes with consequences.

She was the best thief Interpol ever tracked. When a job went wrong she had to make a deal with them to retain her freedom. Given the choice  between being locked in a cell, or complete a simple favor the answer should be obvious. But will that favor prove to be too big, even for the best?

He had been the best once. The right hand man of one of the most powerful women in the city, everyone respected and feared him. Then after a costly mistake he was left with an unpayable debt. He went from being the right hand to the collared dog. When he was tasked with creating ties that could subsequently wipe his debt, will he get out of the frying pan and into the fire? Or will freedom remain unattainable?

What are your thoughts on book covers- in your opinion do they make or break a book?

Absolutely, they make or break a book. I speak as an avid reader myself. There are so many books out there it’s hard to decide what to read and then I read all genres so that makes it worse. I narrow my choices down by cover appearance. How professional it looks, the colors, does it tell part of the story, etc. Since I know that’s how I select a book to read, I know there are probably others just like me when it comes to book selection. This makes a good cover crucial for the visual readers.

Why did you decide to self publish? What appealed to you about it?

The original decision to self publish came after a litany of “we don’t want your book” rejects. I tried the traditional way first because I thought that was the only way to go. If you wanted to be published you had to use a publisher. Between the lack of responses from what feels like several hundred queries, or the generic, you’re not good enough email, I was getting discouraged and Googled what I could do to make myself be seen. Then I discovered self publishing and it’s been so much fun, I’ve stuck with it instead of killing my self esteem with queries again.

What do you need to have close by in order to write?

Water. Otherwise, I’m good. Sometimes, if I plan to write for a while I’ll have a snack too.

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Write. Every day. Yes. EVERY DAY. And read everything you can get your hands on. Even if it has nothing to do with what you want to write. Knowledge is power. And as Jacqueline Carey would say, “All knowledge is worth having.”
